Laetitia Carton

Director

A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Clermont-Ferrand, Laetitia Carton exhibited her work in contemporary art venues as soon as she left school (at the Abbey of St-André in Meymac, the Centre d'Arts Plastiques in St Fons, the Creux de l'enfer in Thiers, the Espace d'Art Contemporain in Paris, the Musée d'Art Contemporain in Lyon...).

She encountered creative documentary during her post-graduate studies at the Lyon School of Art. She then decided to take a different path and attended the master's degree in documentary filmmaking at Lussas (University of Grenoble).

Her graduation film, D'un chagrin j'ai fait un repos, was widely distributed and allowed her to travel as far as Cuba, where it won an award.

In 2009, she made her first film for television, La Pieuvre, about Huntington's disease, a genetic neurodegenerative disease that is decimating her family.

At the same time, she wrote and started shooting a film with the Deaf community in 2006, about sign language, which she completed nine years later. J'avancerai vers toi avec les yeux d'un Sourd (I will walk towards you with the eyes of a Deaf person) was released in January 2016.

In the meantime, she directed for the cinema the portrait of her friend Edmond Baudoin, a comic book author, which was released in September 2015.

Her latest film for the cinema, Le Grand Bal, attracted over 57,000 spectators in France after an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival. The film has been nominated for the César for best documentary in 2019.
